Last weekend we went to Oahu, for my niece's wedding. It was great, but our stay was of course, too short. If you're interested, the pictures are here: in reverse order. An interesting thing happened on our way back to Reno. We had a 3 hour layover in LAX. We had to change carriers, from American, to United, and because of a snafu with our original flight to HI, we were very familiar with the layout of the terminals from American to United (going to HI our connecting flight from SFO to LAX was delayed over an hour and that gave us 30 min to get from United to American - we hauled ass but missed the flight anyway. at the gate, the American agent told us that we had been automajically assigned another flight, because the other was late, BACK ON UNITED). Anyway, the whole point of this ramble is that Laura and I had a leisurely stroll back from American to United, and since we already knew the lay of the land, there was no need to rush. As we strolled and chatted, I observed that we had passed some escalators, so I remarked to my wife that we could either turn back, or head to some escalators a bit further ahead. As I looked ahead, a woman emerged from some sliding doors (one of the exit doors of baggage claim), and approached another woman standing on the sidewalk with her bags, placed her hand on her back, and said something. She then left and started walking in our direction. It was Milla Jovovich. Let me say that again. It was Milla Frakking Jovovich. It was Milla Frakking Jovovich. this was my brain (works best with sound) As she passed, I thought frantically (while maintaining a cool, calm exterior) "Should I ask for an autograph? Should I ask for a picture?" (I had my digital camera with me.) I turned to my wife, who by then had also recognized her, and I asked her - "Should I go over there? Should I ask for an autograph?" She suggested no, that she's just an ordinary person, and that she's probably tired and just wants to get home, just like we do. I agreed, but (Got.DAMN! it's Milla Frakking Jovovich!!!) - so, with her 20 feet away at this point, I decided well, too late, and anyway it'd probably be best not to chase her down, because that's just a bit stalkerish... Today I found out that Milla was in L.A. Sat for a fashion event for her new clothing line, and the other woman was her probably her design parter: http://www.millaj.com/model/jovovich-hawk.shtml It was Milla Frakking Jovovich. Did I mention that? Since that event, I had wondered what would have happened if I did ask for a picture... It'd probably look something like:

We got the (too short) opportunity to travel to Oahu and be there for my niece's wedding. It was spectacular. She was beautiful, Oahu was beautiful, being with friends and family was beautiful. The only bad thing about our stay was it was too short...

This is a time-lapse movie of a 7 hour period of time.

It didn't register until she was less than 2 feet away; up until that point it was just some good looking woman that I shouldn't be looking at because my wife was with me. Then, as I looked at her, and she at me, with a friendly half smile, it dawned on me.
Anyway, later, @ a Starbucks in our terminal, My wife and I are standing in the (quite long) line of people. A blonde girl goes by. I recognize her. She's the new girl in E.R. (her name is Busy Phillipps). I turn to my wife and tell her "Hey, that's the new girl in E.R.!" My wife went next door where her and her companion had gone, and came back; Sure enough, it was her. But this time I couldn't remember her name, nor the name of the character she plays, so there was no way in hell I was going to approach her and say "Hi. I know your famous, but can't recall your name or your characters. Can we take a picture?"
I've lived in L.A. for a long time. I've been to L.A.X. dozens of times. I've *never* seen a celebrity there. I started referring to the day as "Celebrity Saturday". The whole flight back I thought for sure the plane was going to crash, because I'd already had two astronomically unlikely events happen within the span of an hour...
Maybe it was better I didn't ask... [more]
If it wasn't for the tail, I'd swear this was our cat.
I want that job...
