A few days ago I posted this entry, about my excitement over the availability later this year of a Davy Jones costume, because I knew immediately upon watching Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man's Chest, that I was going to create a Davy Jones costume. Davy Jones is one one the best Disney Villians, or Villians period.
I received an email today for a preview of Disney's "Boo"tique, which had the new Davy Jones costume in it.
Boy, is it really dissapointing. But first, let's look at the original. fyi All images are clickable.
First, let's look at a concept drawing of Davy Jones:
Here's a couple of reference shots from the movie:

Here's an anim I made showing the amazing cgi, before and after.
Now, the Disguise Inc costume doesn't look half bad:![]()
(Shop for it online here.)
Let's look at a closeup of the face:![]()
Not bad, but not that great either. It's tolerable, but I'd have rather seen real eyes, than having to use hidden eyeholes in the mask. But, I have some ideas on possibly adapting it. But, that'a another entry.
A shot of the costume from Comic-Con 2006:![]()
Ok, so it's not the greatest - but it's doable. With some aging, it'd look pretty damn decent.
Here are some pics some pics that was snapped @ the 2006 Comicon:

I think this guy did a very good job at capturing the essence of the costume. And, you can see his eyes. Great Job!!!
So, brace yourself. Here's the Disney Version:

I like the claw, but the rest, um....
Let's get a little closer:![]()
Deficits are becoming apparent - this is not boding well.
Let's get a closeup of that face:![]()
That's just wrong.
Actually, that reminds me of:
Pizza the Hutt from
Spaceballs.
It's just sad.
So, to sum up, in order of greatness:
So, i wonder what Halloween holds in store...
