Now I don't pretend to know everything there is to know about religion, or G*D, or Jesus, or Bhudda, or [insert diety here], but I would tend to think that if one is going to invoke the help of a diety, even if they are all powerful, one should use discretion and only ask for stuff that is *truly* necessary. For instance, I often make a small silent prayer that my children will have long, happy, love-filled lives. Nothing specific, just a wish that severe tragedy not go their way. A basic desire I think for most parents.
I think that if one is going to ask for Jesus' help, it should be along the lines of:
Jesus, please help my friend recover from cancer.
or
Jesus, please allow those starving children to get food tonight.
Not
Jesus, please help me sink that putt!
