I saw the Matrix reloaded last Thurs, first show. It's been a long time since I've done that - it seems with each passing year either the number of dipshits who can't shut up increases, or my tolerance decreases, or maybe a bit of both. 30 minutes in, however, I was able to get the jr producer next to me to stop providing me with a preview of the commentary by simply leaning over and asking him if he was planning on providing commentary through the whole movie, or if he wanted me to start farting nonstop now. It worked. On to the movie. I liked it - it provided a great springboard for ideas, discussion, and debates to keep all of us arguing for many months - till' everything gets answered (will it?) in "Revolutions." I'll not bother with a review, there's plenty of them out there. I will, however, provide some decent links to essays about the Matrix revealed in "Reloaded." Also, if you haven't seen the movie yet, If you sit through the credits, you'll be treated to a trailer for "revolutions." I left early...... Stuff to bake your noodle:

The Star Wars Kid Movie: Star_Wars_Kid.wmv For a more thorough explananation of why I decided to put these up, read "more". Update One of the original disbursing websites is taking up a fund to buy the kid an ipod, and stuff. I usually don't donate to "web funds" - I act locally. But I gave. The total reached +$4,000 before the plug was pulled. Now I hear that the kid's parents may take legal action against the kids who uploaded the tape... I have a bad feeling about that. The fundraising site is, however, honoring refund requests if people so desire. What a fiasco. [more]

The kid has been found. Here's an interview.

I puttered around with the boat last weekend. I wanted to cut the cabin roof to fit. I thought I'd attach it temporarily, mark it around the cabin walls, and then remove and cut it.
1/2" ply doesn't like to bend. I had to use cargo straps to get the ply bent, and even then I couldn't get it bent far enough to match the bulkhead curves, or the ends of the 2nd (longer) cabin rafter.
I released the cargo straps (I actually broke the ratchet on one - I don't suggest using a vise grip as a lever when they get too hard to hand tighten...)
Several hours later, the ply straightened, pulling all the screws out of the forward rafter:![]()
:-(
I think next time I'll try 2 1/4" pieces, and laminate them with urea glue - lots of it.

As many of you know, I'm trying to build a hot tub. Here's the chronicle.
I'm currently on step 5. (5/01/03)
Steps:
1. Cut 14 4x6" to 6'4".
2. Drill 3 1" deep 3/8" holes in each side of boards, to be joined by 2" 3/8" dowels.
3. Assemble the floor, using rubber mallet to hammer boards together. No glue necessary.
4. Cut the floor to a 6' diameter circle.
5. Attach 4x4's to bottom of floor.
6. Cut dados into 45 2x6's.
7. Cut sides of 45 2x6's to 4'. Cut last 2x6 to custom measurements (last stave)
8. Attach staves (45 2x6's) to floor.
9. Attach and tighten 4 20' 1/2" steel rods.
10. Plumb, fill, heat.
11. Soak and enjoy.
Step 1:
The wood pile. I used a circular saw to cut each board to 6'4". It was easiest to cut 1/2 through, flip the board, and repeat. Each was then joined on each end, and the best face joined smooth. (I love my new craftsman joiner, seen in the background)
Step 2:
The harbor freight drill jig I used to drill each hole. It worked fairly well, and was cheap. Suggestions: Place a board (I used an 8' 2x6) against the wall. Place each board on edge, and use a straight edge to mark your drill line. Flip the boards and mark the other side. Put a dowel in the center and one near each end, not so far out that they'll be part of the waste when you cut your circle.
Step 3:
Each board is hammered to its neighbor. I only had to expand 3-4 holes to get everything aligned. I was quite surprised.
Step 4:
I built my own trammel for my router, and used it to cut a 6' circle in the floor. It measured 1/4" within 6'. I was quite surprised how well it worked.
The circle is done. I had to extend the bit as far as I could on one side, then flip the whole assembly, and finish with a few more passes. There was a bit of overlap, but I can fix it with the belt sander, if I feel its necessary.
Step 5:
The 4x4's are attached; each board is screwed into the 4x4's with a 3" composite deck screw.
Closeup of some sample staves. I cut the dado by "nibbling" on the table saw, and each edge was cut to 4' with the joiner. 2 Passes and it was a perfect fit.
