My Archives: April 2005

Well, I saw it. And while I don't know quite how it will sit with those unfamiliar with the source material, everyone except hardcore fanboys should enjoy this movie. I'll have a more complete and spoiler laden review later, along with all that I think should not have been eliminated but mind-boggingly was, and a couple of plot holes so big you could shove an Arcturan Mega-Donkey through.

New release picks on a Wed, when movies are released on Teusdays? Well, why not. I figure why not pretend I've got unlimited funds, and prattle on about what I'd buy, if I could. For future entries I'll try to do them on the Sunday Before, when I can. Now on to the New Releases for this week:

There's many more in the "extended" entry. [more]

Click
here to see info on the new Lats & Atts TV show. And yes, the first season will be available on DVD. What a great gift idea...

Also, World of Boating has an interesting radio show that you can download and listen to here. You can catch Bob Bitchin on hour 1 of the 3-26-05 show.

Yeah, my birthday's coming up. My wife wanted a birthday gift list, so I created this, rather than use the 200+ item wishlist on my "proper" amazon account...

Oh, This shirt is wicked cool.

Sarah McLachlan rocked the house @ Lawlor Events Center. Great show, awesome seats. Yappy concertgoers. Who pays > $50 for a concert ticket then spends nearly the entire show flapping their gums? Idjuts, that's who...

Click here, for some behind the scenes vignettes regarding the production. I'm happy to say that what I've seen so far remains true to the flavor of Hitchhiker's, so the movie should still be great!

I've also found:

Click the image to order yours! I'd order one but will I get it before the movie opens?.....

Oh, and I snagged this cool spoiler from the "Marvin" vignette:

Ok. My brain is fried. I'd already seen a torrent of this film (since it played for what, a day? at our local "pseudo-art-house" theater...). I've watched the DVD 3 times now - regular, then with the Filmaker and cast commentaries. I more or less get the ideas/story present in the film, and I have to say for $7000 this is science fiction in it's truest sense... The movie has 1 special effect. Everything, and I mean everything, is story driven. You have to pay attention; you have to think. And there will still be ideas that won't quite cohese or fully formed, because they cannot. All in all this film is a brilliant experience.

To help you, here's an timeline of the movie explained by a poster in the primermovie.com forums. But be warned, it still ain't easy.... And here's another post going in depth on the psychological subtext of the characters, which will help explain their motivations.

Also, while I buy a lot of movies @ Suncoast, they wanted $27.00 for this movie. Unless it's part of a bundle, that's just too much. I picked it up @ Best Buy, for $19.99. As much as I loathe shopping there, they had it at the better price. I also picked up a copy of Jacob's Ladder for $11.99. A great movie at a great price...

Well, Free Cone day is over, I hope you enjoyed one. Still, though, please go and vote to resurrect "Peanut Butter & Jelly" - this was the best.flavor.ever.

First, I spoke to my half sister last Thurs. Awesome!

Here's a new movie on Ifilm, about the making of the graphics for the H2G2 movie, here. (right click to "save as") I know that the Negative H2G2 Review is out there, but then again, so is this very positive one. I still plan on seeing it with an open mind, and I'll definately bring my towel.

And... I've been occupying a lot of free with Doom 3 on my Xbox. I bought the collector's edition, so I can play old school Doom1 & 2 on it. Graphically it's beautiful. Gameplay, while terrifying, is, yes, repetitive. But I think it's still great fun!

Last but not least, I have found my first geocache. Great fun! I look forward to many more.

PS: I do have a birthday coming up... hint hint. Oh, yes the icons are clickable, and will open in a new window. [more]
